Our history
1999 – today

The founding and early Expansion

(1999 – 2004)

Care of Sweden was founded on January 1, 1999, in the small town of Svenljunga with a clear goal – to improve healthcare through innovative products that help prevent pressure ulcers and reduce suffering. That same year, our first product reached the market, marking the beginning of our journey.

Our team began to grow in 2001 when we welcomed our first employee in February. This was a significant step that strengthened our capacity and our determination to make a difference. In 2004, we took another major step forward with the launch of our first air mattress. This innovation, which laid the foundation for our current air system solutions, reflected our commitment to continuously improve and innovate for the benefit of patients.

2005 – 2007
Development and internationalization

In 2005, we entered a new era by starting to offer rental and reconditioning services for our air systems. This initiative not only improved accessibility but also contributed to a more sustainable use of our products. The following year, 2006, was marked by both innovation and international expansion. We introduced DuoCore, an enhancement of our existing foam mattress Optimal 5zon®, which, with its patented feature, remains our most prominent product in the foam segment to this day.

That same year, we held our first export sales meeting in Svenljunga, with participants from five different countries. This meeting was the starting point of our global journey, which has now led to a presence in over 35 countries worldwide. In 2007, when we received our first ISO certification, it became an important testament to our commitment to quality and safety, demonstrating our ability to deliver products that meet both strict quality standards and customer expectations.

2008 – 2011
Company culture and collaborations

The next major step came in 2008 when we participated for the first time in the internationally renowned Medica forum in Germany. This trade fair opened up opportunities for new international collaborations, and since then, we have exhibited there several times.

In 2010, all employees gathered for a joint kickoff event where we not only strengthened our team spirit but also developed the company’s values and culture. During this event, knowledge, joy, and care were identified as our core values—guiding principles that have continued to lead us in everything we do. The following year, in 2011, seat cushions were introduced to our product range, aiming to prevent pressure ulcers for individuals who use wheelchairs.

2012 – 2014
Progress and innovation

The next major milestone came in 2012, when we received our first credit rating and published a comprehensive health economics report. These successes strengthened our position as a reliable and innovative player in the healthcare sector, demonstrating our ability to create value both economically and clinically.

To meet the growing demand for our products, in 2013 we began relocating to Tranemo, which enabled continued expansion and increased production capacity.

One of our most significant technical breakthroughs came in 2014, when we launched the air system CuroCell® UNO, our most extensive development project to date. This project laid the foundation for several successful initiatives and today forms the basis of our most innovative solution, CuroCell® IQ.

2016 – 2019
Engagement and new generation systems

In 2016, we launched our first campaign to raise awareness for “Stop Pressure Ulcer Day,” a significant event in our industry. At an event attended by healthcare providers from across Sweden, we shared our knowledge on pressure ulcer prevention. This event has since become a recurring tradition.

Two years later, in 2018, we reached an important milestone with the launch of our latest generation air system, CuroCell A4, at Medica. The following year, in 2019, we introduced its successor, CuroCell IQ, at the same event, further expanding our range of advanced aids for both the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.

New step and future prospects (2022 – 2024)

When the pandemic broke out in 2020, we adapted by offering digital training sessions via our studios in Tranemo. This allowed us to continue educating healthcare professionals despite the challenges the pandemic brought. The following year, in 2021, a clinical study was published showing excellent results and confirming the effectiveness of our advanced air systems, CuroCell A4 and CuroCell IQ. At the same time, we implemented the new Medical Device Regulation (MDR) in our operations.

In 2023, we launched the next generation of mattresses, CuroCell iA. This solution represents a new chapter in our history as we continue to set the standard for high-quality care and comfort for patients worldwide.

Further progress was made in 2024 when we shipped our first delivery from the new production facility in Latvia. This milestone not only increased our production capacity but also marked an important step in our global expansion. Through this new facility, we can better meet the growing demand and continue delivering innovative solutions around the world.

For the past 25 years, we have worked to make progress in the fight against pressure ulcers, but the challenges remain.
– “We cannot eliminate pressure ulcers on our own. It requires close collaboration with the entire healthcare system, and while we cannot promise a world without pressure ulcers, we must continue to work strategically to constantly reduce their occurrence,” concludes Magnus Högberg, owner and founder of Care of Sweden.
